Even with appropriate care, teeth that undergo endodontic treatment may not heal completely. Though root canal treated teeth have a high success rate, the following conditions may cause improper healing:

  • Curved or narrow canals were not treated during the initial treatment.
  • Complicated canals went undetected during the initial treatment.
  • The crown or restoration was not placed within the appropriate amount of time following the procedure.
  • The crown or restoration did not prevent saliva from contaminating the inside of the tooth.

A root canal filling that loosens or cracks can expose a tooth to infectious decay. Dr. Soordhar (general dentist) and their endodontist specialist team have honed a retreatment procedure based on:

  • Non surgical root canal retreatment procedure by reopening a previously treated tooth to remove restorative materials, clean your canals, and assess the damage to the problematic tooth and/or
  • Surgical root canal procedure to remove the infection surgically at the root tip

The retreatment process concludes with filling and sealing the canals before installing a temporary filling, which will remain in place until we install a new crown or other restoration for full, permanent functionality.
